Very happy with this case. I have been using the iPhone 4 Defender case and found the rubber to be a little too soft, almost gel-like, so that it was difficult to stuff into a pocket or purse in a quick manner because it would stick to the fabric. This 4s version is still a nice rubber, but a little more sturdy so that it doesn’t feel like Tempur-Pedic the way the older version does. The open window (where you place your ear) that surrounds the camera hole, sound receiver and proximity sensor is a nice improvement as well, as the previous version tended to interfere with the proximity sensor. I love the color scheme of the yellow and gray, which is relatively unique (but probably won’t be for long now that this will kick off a trend). The one downfall is that the Otterbox cases make your iPhone like a huge brick because of how big they are–but the counter to that is that the padding is going to protect your phone a lot better than a thinner case would. I’d recommend this case for both iPhone 4 and 4s–I have the 4 and there’s no need to continue using the cases that were built for the 4… just use one of these instead.
With a new iPhone 4S I’ve been worried about breaking it, and so I got the Otter. It is a rugged holder with a ridge that protects the glass from breaking if dropped. Getting it wrapped around the iPhone takes a little doing, but you can find plenty of help online. Once your phone is in the Otter, it is well protected from drops, water and just about everything but a wrong number. I had no problem using the touch commands through the Otter protective window over the main iPhone window. Likewise, the start button at the bottom of the phone works fine through the protective button cover. Once I got it on, I really have no reason to remove it.
It also comes with a belt holder that I don’t use but would be handy for those who do. You just slip your belt through the holder and your iPhone in the Otter easily pops in and out. So if you want optimum protection for your phone, I can easily recommend the Otter.
